Digg for EdBloggers / Do We Need to Get Our Act Together? Via Downes

Maybe it will work, though I have my doubts. Full marks, though, for the initiative. The idea being promoted is to create a Digg for edubloggers - the idea is that the edubloggers would recommend education stories from each other and the popular press. Why do I have doubts? Well, I have my doubts about these 'collective' sites in general. If edu-Digg makes sense, then why not UK-edu-Digg, to get away from the American dominance? But then, when Digging, where does one's loyalties lie? Better that each of us do our own thing, and that different aggregations allow different 'views' of what's happening - a global view, a UK view, an edu-view. Learndog the day after.

Last week was Mike Seyfang's last day. For Mike's last post have a look here, I would like to personally thank mike he has made my time at Archer college much more exciting and has opened my eye's the Web 2.0, blogging, podcasting, the ability to think at a million miles an hour.....the list goes on and on. So thanks for everything Mike, From The Archer family.

But what I would really like to emphasise is that personally what I gained from mike and that I value more than everything else. Is a good friend.

Learndog and mike also got a mention in the Stephen Downes blog. It is interesting to note the support mike has received through comments from his little community such as Dave - Lifekludger and James Farmer. We add our support.

Elearning 2.0

Be prepared for success online

Having a sound grasp of traditional learning strategies and study skills does not mean that students are adequately prepared for success in online learning environements.

Blackboard and WebCT let their powers combine

As Stephen Downes says, this is obviously huge news.....

Good news for online learning

Studies show that online learning is increasing in popularity. Many students regard the quality of education provided to be at least equal to actual classroom learning, if not better.

Entering the Mainstream: The Quality and extent of Online Education in the United States, 2003 and 2004, published by The Sloan Consortium, reveals that enrolment in online learning is continuing to increase and many schools regard teaching online to be a crucial part of their long-term learning strategies.

Good Grade for Online Learning, shows that flexibility and quality of teaching leads many students to consider learning online to be a much better option to being in a classroom. 

e-learning

Yesterday had a professorial feel in a discussion about e-learning. It was lunch with threeof my university mentors, and we got to talking about how they were doing their e-classes. There were the usual stories mixed with a few bright notes, but for one it seemed a lost cause, the distaste was due to a nostalgia for the traditionalroles of teacher and student. Another of the three got it educationally, the facilitation and different knowledge construction, but doesnt use it much.
