Studies show that online learning is increasing in popularity. Many students regard the quality of education provided to be at least equal to actual classroom learning, if not better.
Entering the Mainstream: The Quality and extent of Online Education in the United States, 2003 and 2004, published by The Sloan Consortium, reveals that enrolment in online learning is continuing to increase and many schools regard teaching online to be a crucial part of their long-term learning strategies.
Good Grade for Online Learning, shows that flexibility and quality of teaching leads many students to consider learning online to be a much better option to being in a classroom.

Yesterday had a professorial feel in a discussion about e-learning. It was lunch with threeof my university mentors, and we got to talking about how they were doing their e-classes. There were the usual stories mixed with a few bright notes, but for one it seemed a lost cause, the distaste was due to a nostalgia for the traditionalroles of teacher and student. Another of the three got it educationally, the facilitation and different knowledge construction, but doesnt use it much.
