Digg for EdBloggers / Do We Need to Get Our Act Together? Via Downes

Maybe it will work, though I have my doubts. Full marks, though, for the initiative. The idea being promoted is to create a Digg for edubloggers - the idea is that the edubloggers would recommend education stories from each other and the popular press. Why do I have doubts? Well, I have my doubts about these 'collective' sites in general. If edu-Digg makes sense, then why not UK-edu-Digg, to get away from the American dominance? But then, when Digging, where does one's loyalties lie? Better that each of us do our own thing, and that different aggregations allow different 'views' of what's happening - a global view, a UK view, an edu-view. Learndog the day after.

Last week was Mike Seyfang's last day. For Mike's last post have a look here, I would like to personally thank mike he has made my time at Archer college much more exciting and has opened my eye's the Web 2.0, blogging, podcasting, the ability to think at a million miles an hour.....the list goes on and on. So thanks for everything Mike, From The Archer family.

But what I would really like to emphasise is that personally what I gained from mike and that I value more than everything else. Is a good friend.

Learndog and mike also got a mention in the Stephen Downes blog. It is interesting to note the support mike has received through comments from his little community such as Dave - Lifekludger and James Farmer. We add our support.

Second life as a communication medium.

Second life is all a buzz in the Online world. We at Archer college are not ignoring it, this morning Mike Seyfang from Learndog sat in on the EdTechTalk Skypecast and enjoyed closing the Gap between people in different countries. I also was in discussions with Mike yesterday.

Looking at moving into the Second Life as a medium of Training is a idea that has been thrown around before and has not been dismissed yet either. At the moment it seems to me that the Idea of the second life as a meeting place is taking off and Virtual conferences are a real opportunity.

Australian Copyright law

A step in the right direction.

As I was reading the Stephen Downs Blog I noticed the article Australia to Introduce Sweeping Copyright Exceptions, it discussed the new planned Changes to Australian Copyright law. The new changes are

In summary, the AG has announced:
- use exceptions - time-shifting and format-shifting;
- exceptions for schools, universities, libraries, and other cultural institutions - exceptions for people with disabilities;
- exceptions to allow parody or satire;
