Yesterday I participated in a very interesting community of practice at Archer College. The community was focussed on the task of stuffing 2880 envelopes with three pieces of paper. Just after my second papercut I 'noticed' the name on one of the letters, so I made a phone call.
That got me thinking - [DANGER: This might hurt your brain as much as it did mine]
I 'notice' a lot of communities of practice as I float around the Web2.0 universe. Sometimes I 'connect' with them and participate. What would happen if a smart marketer monitored the blogosphere for pain or interest points and chimed in (respectfully) with (helpful and relevant) suggestions for products and services?

UPDATE: If my idea is an example of 'LongTail Marketing' check this:
http://mashable.com/2005/11/23/google-testing-click-to-call-ads/
This is really all about the long tail of advertising - the vast majority of small businesses don’t have a website, but they do have a phone. Adwords is of no use to these businesses, but click-to-call is perfect. Google will soon be in a position to profit from every single small business, opening up a whole new stream of revenue. Will that stock price ever stop rising?
